I didn't know when I wrote and published this that it was the first article in a series. In the series, I hope to shed light on the very nature of institutions, and why we need to replace most of the cultural institutions which now dominate our world. The work involved involves staring right into the very heart of darkness. It's a painful thing to stare at, to say the least. So having your friendship and support is not only valued, but necessary. Lanterns are like double edged swords which reveal both great beauty and goodness and extreme ugliness and evil. I cannot turn from the darkness in perceiving the goodness and beauty in our world.
Interesting. I'm beginning a similar series looking at the thought-structures embedded in our approach to climate. And yes, the darkness isn't just in what we're doing, but the way we think about it. Keep shining.
Beautiful and insightful piece, James.
Thank you Rob.
